Studies of Face Processing, and Food Sharing as Reciprocal Altruism. NIH AREA grant funding for projects through 2004! We completed the comparison of face processing by tamarins and humans this year, and presented it at a national conference. We have submitted the manuscript for publication to Animal Cognition and expect the revision to result in publication in 2005. Mindy Jensen and Cassie McMillan helped to run some badly needed control conditions to understand better the altruism study we had started in 2002. Robin Ballard continued with the social learning experiment, and she conducted a senior project on visual and landmark cues in space, which was later presented at a national conference. Janice Hassett finished part of the face processing study by tamarins for her thesis project. This year also marked the loss of valuable tamarin friends: Oprah, Sebastian, Viola, and Dante. Each loss occurred due to different medical problems, and each was difficult for all (monkeys, students, staff, and faculty). |
