Studies of Space, Social Learning, Faces, and Reciprocal Altruism. We had not asked any questions about their social awareness yet, apart from recognizing themselves, as opposed to others, and following gaze of others to find food. So, this year marked a few seniors looking into social questions. Ben Basile tried to determine if social synchrony in behavior would lead to increased food sharing among tamarins (senior comps), while Carrie DeHart tested whether tamarins learned a task by watching a mate learn it. We also completed the study of categorization of animal kinds, including dinosaurs and mammals as broad categories this year. The summer of 2002 brought a focus on face processing, and Janice Hassett and Cara Sylvester stayed over the summer to help conduct a study with adult humans and tamarins. |
