Astrachan
A Computer Science Tapestry
(Exploring Programming and Computer Science with C++)
McGraw-Hill
1997
Review:
- Fits the AP/CS/A course extremely well. (The author was the chief reader for the past three years.)
- Classes are introduced early and explained gradually.
- Strong on AP-like classes, esp. strings and templated vectors, and the author's own classes (which may get in the way).
- Works best if followed closely; much more of a text than a reference.
- Appendices: Strings, Vectors, Random Numbers.
- Second edition will be available in summer, 1999.
