We'll look at a couple of effects we used in the Octave labs for unit 8: ring modulation and multitap delay.
Logic should be closed before starting this lab.
Download ViolinPizzSolo108.
Unzip it to a MIDI file.
Copy the MIDI file to the Desktop.
Open LogicPro and choose Empty Project.
Choose 1 Software Instrument
Drag the VlnPizzSolo108.mid Standard MIDI File into the Logic window.
Alternatively, you could choose Import from the File menu.
Click and hold the IO insert button.
You'll see a popup menu. Choose EXS24-Stereo.
When the EXS24 window appears, click and hold the patch select button.
A popup menu will appear. Choose" 09 Orchestral-09 Strings-Violin 1 Pizz".
Close the EXS24 window.
Press the space bar to play. Press the space bar to stop.
Click the Insert button to add an effect to this track.
Choose the Ringshifter-Stereo plugin.
The Ringshifter plugin window will open with these default settings.
Make these changes.
Hint: Hold the Option key down and click (Option-click) on a knob or button to set it. Most of the time it will reset to zero.
For the large Frequency knob in the center, Option-click the text 0.
Turn off the Power and Sync buttons in the LFO section.
While the track is looping, change the Oscillator frequency.
Click and hold the cursor in the center of the large Frequency knob.
Drag vertically upwards to change the Frequency.
You should hear sounds exactly like 12Lab5PlayerRingMod.
Most Logic instruments and effects come with built in presets.
Click here to access the Presets menu.
Choose the Groove Shadow 1 preset and listen.
Try other presets.
Change the Insert effect to Delay Designer-Stereo.
Choose the 1/8 Dotted Resonate preset.
Add the Ringshifter effect after the Delay.
Option-click to bypass an effect.
Apple-click on DlyDesign and drag down to change the order the effects are processed.
Transpose the track up or down by 1, 2, or 3 octaves.
