Tetrachords

What is a tetrachord?

List the five tetrachord patterns.

Major Minor Scales

How are tetrachords used to construct the major and minor scales?

List the lower and upper tetrachord patterns in these scales

Given a four note tetrachord, identify:

Notate the following scales: C major, f sharp natural minor, b flat harmonic minor, etc.

Name the only three scales where both sharps and flats appear in the scale.

Numerical Representation of Scales

The notes major scale can be labelled 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1. Given a melody using notes from a major scale, write the scale numbers under each note of the melody.

The rock blues scale uses the notes "1 b3 3 5 6 b7 1". Write the rock blues scale starting on G.

The minor blues scale uses the notes "1 b3 4 #4 b7 1". Write the minor blues scale starting on C.
