MAGNETOMETER – THREE AXIS

SCIENCE OBJECTIVE:  To monitor and measure the magnetic field of the planetary body.  In addition, it will monitor

magnetically induced events similar to the northern lights.

INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION:

The structure of the magnetometer without                The three magnetometer sensor’s tubes with the nulling coil wound

the magnetometers or electronics.                              the magnetometers.

SPECIFICATIONS:

PROJECT STATUS:  The mounting assembly has been machined as well as the sensor tubes.  The nulling coils have been

wound over the tube which will contain the magnetometer sensors.  Left to do is the final electronics design and fabrication.

The electronics will be mounted inside the magnetometer enclosure which will be coated with a conductive paint to reduce

the effects of and from EMI.  The entire assembly connects to the linear actuator boom via a Bendix bayonet type circular

connector for easy installation and removal.

INSTRUMENT COSTS:

Magnetometer sensors            quantity 3

Lexan supplies

Waterproof enclosure

EMI paint
