BLACK GLOBE SENSOR

 

 

SCIENCE OBJECTIVE:  This instrument provides an indication of the physiological impact of sunlight on the human body.

 

 

 

 

 

INSTRUMENT DESCRIPTION:  The sensor consists of a 6 inch diameter copper sphere painted flat black and containing

an RTD temperature probe in the center of it to measure the temperature inside the sphere.

 

 

 

The current state of the black globe sensor.  The unpainted copper globe is attached to a small diecast aluminum box

for mounting to one of the instrument booms.  Also shown is the phenolic tube which will contain the RTD sensor and will

be inserted into the middle of the globe.

PROJECT STATUS:  The pieces have been machined but are not yet painted.  Once painted the sensor will be installed

And the wiring attached.
